FAQ's

What Do They Treat?

Active Aligners are prescribed to treat various degrees of the following orthodontic conditions:

  • Crowded teeth

  • Gaps

  • Overbites

  • Rotated teeth

Who Are They For?

Active Aligners are for anyone looking for a discreet alternative to traditional orthodontic braces that produce similar outcomes, affordability and with shorter treatment times.

Active Aligners are available to adults and teenagers provided they have been determined as suitable candidates. The minimum age is 16 (as it is required that all permanent teeth have erupted). There is no maximum age for Active Aligners and many adults find the nature of the treatment suitable to their lifestyles.

How Long Does It Take?

The average Active Aligner case takes anywhere between 6-8 months. Depending on the complexity of the case, your treatment may differ. Once you have undergone your candidacy assessment with us and it has been determined that you are a candidate, the details of your treatment (including the expected length of treatment) will be made available to you.

How Much Does It Cost?

The price of Active Aligner treatment varies depending on the complexity and length of your treatment. Following an initial consultation we will provide you with a treatment plan detailing the cost of your treatment.

The treatment plan will show the cost of the Active Aligners, any professional fees and/or for consultations and any additional work (for example, fillings, x-rays, IPR etc.) to prepare your mouth for treatment.

Sometimes refinements outside of the original scope of treatment may be desirable at the end of an aligner journey. Should this be the case, there may be an additional cost.

Active Aligners vs. Traditional Orthodontics

Traditional orthodontics use metal wires and brackets which are bonded to teeth to move them into their desired positions. Instead of the metal wires or brackets, Active Aligners are clear removable plastic trays that apply slight, yet highly precise forces to specific teeth over the course of your treatment.

In certain circumstances, where patients present with highly complex bites, traditional orthodontics may still be recommended.

Treatment Journey

Step 1: Smile consultation and suitability

  • We will assess the overall condition of your mouth and complete any necessary dental work required before starting an Active Aligner treatment plan (for example, fillings, hygienist etc.).

  • This is followed by either a 3D scan or impression of your teeth which will be sent to the Active Aligners treatment planners to determine your suitability for the treatment.

  • If we can straighten your smile using Active Aligners, the treatment planning team will digitally plot all tooth movements and plan your new smile.

  • We will send you a digital 3D Smile Simulation so that you can evaluate your expected results before embarking on your Active Aligners treatment.

Step 3: Retention

  • Once you have finished your Active Aligner treatment, you will be required to wear your retainers for a minimum of 22 hours a day for 3 months to maintain your newly aligned smile.

Thereafter, you may move to nightly wear or a fixed lingual retainer at our agreed discretion (1 set of removable retainers is included per treatment).
